BRING HOME DAY! PUPPY PICK-UP:

Here is our puppy pick-up plan.

We will email the day and time of your pick-up. We have several people picking up their pup that day, so we have 20-minute increments if you want to “talk puppies” before taking your puppy home. If the time does not work, please let us know so we can find a good time. We want to see each puppy go to their wonderful new home on their 8-week birthday!

Here are several other puppy pick-up tips:

  1. Be sure to have a blanket or towel. Individual puppies respond differently to car rides. A towel can help clean any accidents. Some people have a rider holding the puppy. Others may use a carrier, crate, or box for the puppy ride home. We can also wrap their mother in the blanket to bring a familiar scent home for the puppy if you like. Here are Travel Tips.

  2. Have some water and a water dish. Depending on how far you travel, the puppy may need a bathroom break and a drink of water.

  3. Bring a small leash to guide your puppy when walking. We will provide a new (non-breakaway) puppy collar similar to the one you saw in the photos.

  4. Before pick-up day, you may want to schedule your “well puppy visit” with your veterinarian so that you can have your puppy checked within three days of your pick-up. Please keep your puppy packet cover letter and take it to your vet because it contains the following information.

  5. We will provide you with the AKC paperwork. Just fill it in when you get home and send it to AKC to make your puppy's name official on their pedigree and have you declared the owner on the AKC certificate.

  6. Extra Boarding Days. We offer three free days of boarding to each customer before puppy pickup. If you need additional days, please let us know beforehand and bring a cash boarding fee of $25 per day (no tax) at pick up.

  7. Please use the address or map below to best plan your trip to Saratoga Goldens (our home). We are located about 3 minutes off of I-87 at exit 16. Make this a special day for your family! Many people enjoy our region on a mini-vacation to Saratoga Springs or Lake George the night before pick-up.

  8. Please have cash or a credit card to complete your puppy purchase (We prefer cash). No other form of payment is accepted. The balance below is in addition to the original reservation/deposit fee.

Acclimating to New Home Tips:

  1. We recommend new owners continue to use Purina ONE Large Breed Puppy for their puppy’s feed. Making as few as possible changes when taking a puppy to a new environment is good. Also, the Purina ONE Large Breed puppy food has proven excellent results for our goldens with their coat, eye development, and healthy rate of physical growth. Our goldens enjoy this food for the first 18 months!

  2. Most new owners have told us their puppy sleeps well in a crate covered with a blanket. We turn the lights off around 8 PM and turn the radio on softly each night. It’s ok to use a large crate to start. If it is covered with a blanket, the pup should sleep fine. They tend to like enclosed feeling spaces for their nesting instincts as it makes them feel safe.

  3. Pee pads tend to work well. We have also been training with Cedar chips (Not Pine). If you have a designated area outside and put cedar chips, your puppy may gravitate to that space. Your puppy will probably whine near the door when he/she wants to go out.

  4. Puppies play hard and rest hard. Your pup will sleep a lot! Please see our tips page for the “Day in the Life of the Puppy” illustration.

  5. Puppies learn even more and faster after eight weeks of age. They will adapt quickly to your routine if you are consistent and patient.
